Fam is always fam

Friday my brother-from-another-mother-and-father graduated from Washington University in St. Louis with his MBA.  He has already accepted his dream job offer in Chicago where he will move in June.

His sisters, brother, and parents came to the Lou to watch and celebrate.  It was great.

Seeing him graduate, his sister pregnant with her second child, and their youngest brother looking more and more like a grown-ass man was really awesome and at the same time surreal.

Being all together is like no time passed.  We are still able to talk and laugh and eat bowl upon bowl of cereal in the middle of the afternoon like we used to do over a decade ago when we all lived in the same city.  Of course, the conversations are older and we don't really enjoy reading the back of the cereal boxes anymore.  But, it was still great.

We FaceTimed with the family in DC while they were all together for their regular Sunday dinners, of which I love the idea - especially the wine drinking.  Cute hair cuts were all over the place.  Then we FaceTimed with the family in Houston and saw Kid Sis #2 and nephew #1 (who is now 4 and not as young as in this post - but the picture in it is still so cute as he played with his little brother!) and nephew #2.

There is really something to be said for good friendships that last beyond distance, time, and even beyond infrequent conversations.

We are still cool no matter what.  They are still among my favorite people and our parents are still best buds as well.

Now, if only we could plan a get-away vacation and not have one member of the crew preggers, it would be great.  If we could go through a box of 100 freeze-pops in one day, it would be even better.  Since we all have our own places, we can even eat them all and not have to hide 80 of the wrappers from our parents.

    1. Ride safely and try not to let your dad get passed by 18-wheelers!

    2. Oh, and be sure not to allow your brother too much iron-fortification when he goes to Houston and wants to eat your cereal!

  4. Yes, Judy...the green ones ARE the best. But the pink ones come in a very close second. Purple is for chumps.

A.I., along with "cut haircuts all over the place", you forgot to mention the huge fifth of Jack (errr. I mean "olive oil") that we spotted on the stove in DC.

    1. Pink was also kind of bland some times.

HAHA the fact that we thought the olive oil was a fifth of Jack was classic! Though they were tearing up some wine in their goblets!

Hope you are recovering from the franticness of graduation and getting ready for the franticness of moving and buying new stuff!

  5. Love the relationship you have with your family "like no time passed." Eat all those damn freeze pops (I love them and they are always in our freezer). We compare tongues after we've eaten a gazillion of them.

Congrats to your bro. Great accomplishment and a job in "my" town. Awesome! Actually, any job is awesome these days and a dream one....

    1. I am tempted to buy the big box of freeze pops and eat as many as I can in a day as a tribute to all great friends!

Thanks! The job situation is definitely not ideal in the country right now, so it is even more of a great thing that he found not only A job, but THE job!

  6. Blogger just ate my comment :-(

I think the gist was - distance and time doesn't affect some relationships...I agree! I have just spent the weekend with some family that I haven't seen in at least 2 years...probably more. We just dropped into the same routines, it was lovely.

Should I confess that I am a pink or purple ice pop girl?!?! At least I wouldn't steal the green ones!

    1. Sorry your comment disappeared!

I love that we can have such good friends that we can still talk after long periods like it's no big deal!

I will still accept you, even though you are a pink and purple girl... they are all good. And after so long of not having them, and my adult taste buds, I may like different colors now.

  7. Isn't technology grand sometimes? (Not all the time, but it is great being able to see family and friends instantly!) I have been Skyping with my brother in OH and I love that I can say "goodnight" to my neices and nephews etc... Your post was so full of joy. I am one of 6 sibs. I miss the banter some times. I smiled at the icepops as my nieces and nephews INHALE them. I can still eat the orange and green ones!!

    1. Thanks! I am one of 5 - I love all of them and love how we are always able to laugh each time we chat.

How great that you can see your nieces and nephews regularly! I wish we had this technology when we were younger! Also glad they love freeze pops!!
